Simple Cooking. Simple Spices.

What is it about food that draws us in? The senses, aroma, taste, texture and aesthetics. Stepping into a nice restaurant all dressed up on a chilly holiday evening with your loved ones, enjoying the full experience of good food is one thing, but what if you could create this experience at home? Growing up my mother made every meal an experience. It wasn't just about eating because as humans we have to eat, it was more. Food was meant to captivate you with warmth, every bite melting in the mouth so that when you come back to it, you were filled with all sweet memories that came with it. The art of sitting around the table, sharing conversation, and eating was a daily part of life and as I grew up realized how spoiled I was.

I began creating my own dishes that captivated my taste buds and brought me back again and again. I didn't need my moms recipes every time because I soon realized that all I needed was the basic ingredients and then the world was my oyster.  Food could be anything I wanted it to be. It wasn't always good but every poor attempt made me want to try harder to get the perfect combination.

Pretty soon my friends were asking for my chili recipe and my roommates were begging me to make one last meal for them before they moved. Food once again became not just how it tasted but who you shared it with. I became gluten free in July and started a journey of learning how to bake with different flour substances. Both my roommates were gluten free and it didn't take long before I was wrapped up in the world of good food that was also healthy. I began sharing what I was learning and they coined the phrase "It's All About the Spice." Just add enough spice to simple ingredients and the whole dish changes.

I can't wait to began sharing with you what I've discovered! These recipes are meant to be friendly for all level of cooking. I lead a busy life and don't have time to spend hours in the kitchen. I take short cuts all the while still cooking honestly. I hope too, that you find these recipes fun and easy to incorporate in your kitchen.

Cheers!
